Valerie Keppel Hull was born in 1970. She comes from a long line of artists. Her grandmothers and great grandfathers’ work inspired her since early childhood. Valerie was a quick learner of the many things taught to her in youth, and since youth her talent flourished.

Her desire is to create work people love and will cherish throughout their life. She wants her work to have a place in someone's heart, not just their decor. Her work is realistic, but with a soft edge. She feels a painting speaks to its recipient, something a photo can never do. Valerie's favorite mediums are pastels, pencils, oils, and acrylics. Her style and preferred method of making a piece is keeping it more simplistic and uncluttered, typically high lighting a centralized object. She enjoys painting portraits, animal life and scenery, much of the scenery is of South Carolina although she paints scenery from just about anywhere.

Today art is commercialized in many aspects including tracing or other imaging shortcuts; Valerie does not use these techniques and completes all of her work freehand. It is very easy to distinguish her work from other artists due to her style and how she captures her work. In modern times many artists are selling work for what ever they can and make as many pieces of it they can sell; in a way this can undermine the value of their work. Valerie is not only selective in what she composes and her methods, but she is also cautious of who she sells work to and is more interested in a person buying her work who absolutely loves it then someone who is just buying it.
